Fun Facts About
Seoul
Did you know Seoul was the site of the APEAR conference in 2016? Wellness was just coming into focus as an addition to EAP services. The conference was marked by a presentation of Korean music and culture, and a special guest dance performance of "Gangnam Style" led off one of the presentations.
Seoul blends old and new beautifully — where centuries-old palaces like Gyeongbokgung stand side-by-side with futuristic skyscrapers.
The city never really sleeps — shops, cafés, and restaurants stay open late, especially in districts like Gangnam, Hongdae, and Myeongdong.
Wi-Fi is everywhere — Seoul is one of the most connected cities in the world, offering free public Wi-Fi in subways, parks, and even along major streets.
Cherry blossom season peaks in early April, turning the city’s parks and riversides into pink-and-white landscapes. Make sure to take some time to experience their beauty while here!
K-pop and Korean dramas aren’t just entertainment — they’re a major part of Seoul’s global cultural identity.
Seoul’s subway system is world-class, clean, punctual, and reaches nearly every corner of the city.
Street food is a must-try — from tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and hotteok (sweet pancakes) to Korean-style fried chicken.
You can cross the Han River dozens of ways, but a night cruise offers one of the best skyline views in Asia.
Safety is top-notch — Seoul consistently ranks among the safest major cities in the world for travellers.
Koreans love coffee — Seoul has more cafés per capita than almost any other city, from global chains to boutique roasters.
Green spaces abound — Namsan Park, Seoul Forest, and the Han River trails are perfect spots to unwind after conference sessions.
Public transportation announcements are multilingual, typically available in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese.
Taxis are color-coded — orange and silver ones are standard, while black “deluxe” taxis offer extra comfort.
Tipping isn’t expected, but polite gratitude is always appreciated.
Recycling is serious business — Seoul has one of the most comprehensive recycling systems in the world.
